United States & Israel Leave U.N. Cultural Agency Because Of Its Anti-Israel Bias

United States & Israel Leave U.N. Cultural Agency Because Of Its Anti-Israel Bias

A good move.

The United States and Israel have withdrawn from UNESCO, a cultural organization of the United Nations that designates World Heritage Sites. In a statement, U.S. State Department spokeswoman Heather Nauert said, “This decision was not taken lightly, and reflects U.S. concerns with mounting arrears at UNESCO, the need for fundamental reform in the organization, and continuing anti-Israel bias.”

The U.S. provides 1/5th of the funding for the organization, though they have been withholding funding since 2011 – when Palestine was added as a member.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu praised the decision, calling it “brave and moral,” and announced that Israel would leave UNESCO as well.

UNESCO has repeatedly sided with the Palestinians in disputes over heritage sites in Jerusalem and the Palestinian territories, and is yet another example of the disgusting anti-Israel bias that permeates much of the United Nations organization.

Israel’s United Nations Ambassador Danny Danon was also pleased with the decision, saying, “Today is a new day at the U.N., where there is price to pay for discrimination against Israel.”
Recently, UNESCO approved a resolution condemning Israel that was sponsored by Arab countries, yet UNESCO almost never denounces any other country.

Canada should stop paying U.N. fees

This move is a good step in the right direction for both the U.S. and Israel. The United Nations could be a great organization, if it was devoted to democracy and freedom. Unfortunately, it has become incredibly corrupt, and used by dictatorships and repressive regimes to justify their actions. It is also used as a tool to relentlessly condemn Israel over and over again, while ignoring almost every other country. As a result, the United Nations often empowers anti-Semitism, which is a sad irony considering it was formed in the wake of World War Two.

That’s why Canada should stop paying our U.N. fees, and send a clear message that Canada won’t give taxpayer money to an organization that has totally lost its way.
